Mar 16: Day 32
Planned workout(s): Bike, 5 minutes Z1, 10 minutes Z2, 4 x (6 minutes Z3/3 minutes Z1) 5 minutes Z2, 5 minutes Z1
Rocked this bike this evening.
I’m really glad too, because when I got up this morning and did my stretches and push ups, I felt nauseous again. Not a good sign! Thankfully, by the time 6PM rolled around I was able to get on the bike and hammer hard. I needed that too, because these 6 minute intervals had me tired by the end! Tomorrow I have a double workout. I’ll see how the run intervals go. At this stage, I think if it just isn’t in the tank I’ll dial it back and just cruise for 30 minutes. Loooooong way to go to October.
I have noticed some strange differences between power on my trainer and power outside. It seems the power on the trainer is noticeably less than I generate outside. I learned there are a lot of reasons for that difference, including the nature of the flywheel, the fact that the bike is steady rather than rocking back and forth, the difference in sustained effort necessary to keep the flywheel moving, etc. I also learned that, given enough training, the gap should narrow. Looking forward to that, because it concerns me that I could be overtraining on the indoor trainer.
On to something completely different….basketball! My alma mater is UC Davis, and they recently went D1. For the very first time they are in the NCAA basketball tournament, and they actually won their first game! For their reward, they get to play #1 Kansas tomorrow night. What makes this especially interesting is I work for their main rival, Kansas State. So yeah….if the Aggies actually somehow pull the upset, I’ll be happy in all kinds of ways.
Of course, it’s far more likely KU will demolish us, but hey! Dare to dream. Go Ags!
