…I would need to think about Michael Hays to get me through a workout that fast. But it happened yesterday morning on my bike.
The day before on my run I absolutely crushed it, I felt great. 10 miles is a lot on a Tuesday though, when it is the first workout of 9 for the week. I must not have recovered adequately because when I mounted up for my bike ride Wednesday morning, it was just not there.
I train with power and a heart rate monitor. I also am really in tune with my body. I know, usually without looking, how hard my effort is. Only yesterday I got on the bike and I could not keep my power up in the zone and my HR would not budge, even though my effort was enough to cause me to absolutely drip sweat profusely. It was weird. It FELT like I was working really, really hard but my HR and Power Meter disputed that.
I was tempted to just cash it in, but I remembered Michael. So I worked as hard as I could to put what I had into that workout, even if it wasn’t going to be perfect to the plan. By the end of the hour I was completely exhausted but pleased I pushed through.
I was really, really glad to have a short swim though. That helped a ton. Not to mention I FINALLY GOT BACK IN THE POOL! One wouldn’t think that is as hard as it has been lately.
Today I have my Boys of Bourbon event, and still have my bike to go. I need to keep that in mind when I decide how many bourbons to try, otherwise this could be another “interesting” workout. Today I am bringing a new one for me, Belle Meade bourbon. Here is hoping it’s good. Cheers! (literally)
